When choosing among adult video platforms, start with the format you want. To browse standalone clips, look at video-sharing sites; for real-time interaction, look at live-streaming platforms; for adult films made by studios, you are looking at studio productions; and for stories with characters and a connected plot, episodic adult short dramas such as those on HONG LUO are the fit. Below, the common platforms and industries are grouped by format.
What Formats Do Adult Video Platforms Come In?
- Video-sharing sites: Built around standalone clips, such as Pornhub and XVideos.
- Live-streaming platforms: Built around live broadcasts, such as Stripchat and SWAG.
- Studio productions: Adult films produced and distributed by studios, such as Japan's AV industry and Madou Media, which has ceased operations.
- Story dramas: Pre-recorded stories told in episodes, such as the series on HONG LUO.
Video-Sharing Sites: Pornhub and XVideos
Pornhub is operated by Aylo, a company headquartered in Montreal, Canada, and part of ECP. From February 2026 it blocked new users in the UK, with partial access restored in May, and in September the UK regulator Ofcom opened an investigation into its age checks, which has not been decided. XVideos is a free, ad-supported adult video-sharing site that launched in 2007 and is registered under WGCZ Holding in the Czech Republic, part of the same group as XNXX. The European Commission issued preliminary findings on both in March 2026, which are also not final. Live-Streaming Platforms: Stripchat and SWAG
Stripchat is an adult live-streaming platform that launched in 2016 and operates mainly on a model of live streams combined with tokens. The European Commission opened an investigation under the Digital Services Act in May 2025 and issued preliminary findings in March 2026, focused on whether age verification is effective; the findings are not final. SWAG is a Taiwanese adult live-streaming and paid-interaction platform which, according to its public information, was founded in 2016. Studio Productions: Japanese AV and Madou Media
Japanese AV is an industry rather than a single platform. Its main legal basis is Article 175 of Japan's Penal Code, and by convention released titles must obscure the genitals, usually with mosaic pixelation; since 2022, a performer-protection law has set intervals between contracts, filming and release. Madou Media was a Chinese-language adult film production and distribution company founded in 2019, and it announced on April 2, 2026 that it had permanently ceased operations. Story Dramas: For Viewers Who Want a Complete Story
An adult short drama splits one story into episodes. HONG LUO offers both vertical and horizontal series, an interface in 15 languages with multilingual subtitles, and asks viewers to confirm they are 18 or older when they enter. Good places to start:
- The Repressed Housewife: An Urban Romance series in which Lin Wan, neglected for years after marrying into wealth, is drawn into an ambiguous course of therapy to pay her mother's medical bills.
- Secret Personal Training: At a gym, the attraction between a client and a cool, reserved personal trainer slowly heats up.
- Teaching in the Village of Widows: A rural romance in which Xiao Ming, who returns to a mountain village near his hometown as a substitute teacher, finds the warm-hearted villagers doing everything they can to keep him there.
