The first difference between Japanese AV and adult short dramas is what they are. Japanese AV is an industry, with many studios producing and distributing work, not a single platform. An adult short drama is a format that tells one story across a series of episodes, like the series on HONG LUO. The two differ in format and the way you watch, and they suit different needs.
What Is Japanese AV, and Why Is It an Industry Rather Than a Platform?
"Japanese AV" refers to Japan's adult video industry, in which many studios produce and distribute their own titles through more than one channel. So when people compare Japanese AV with something else, they are really comparing the conventions and rules of an entire industry, not one website or app.
Which Laws Regulate Japanese AV?
The main legal basis for adult video in Japan is Article 175 of the Penal Code, on the distribution of obscene materials, which has been part of the Penal Code since 1907. By industry convention, released titles must obscure the genitals, usually with mosaic pixelation.
Since 2022, Japan has also enforced a law to prevent and remedy harm to AV performers. It sets out contract procedures between producers and performers, requires set intervals between signing, filming and release, and allows performers to cancel their contracts unconditionally within a set period.
How Is Japanese AV Different From Adult Story Dramas?
- What it is: Japanese AV is the name of an industry. An adult short drama is a format released in episodes, watched from episode one.
- Structure: A short drama is released in episodes, with a connected storyline that runs from the opening through the turning points to the finish, and relationships that develop as the plot moves forward.
- Screen orientation: HONG LUO offers both vertical and horizontal series. Vertical works well on a phone, while horizontal suits a computer or tablet.
- Language: The HONG LUO interface is available in 15 languages, with subtitles in multiple languages for viewers who speak different languages.
Who Are Adult Story Dramas For?
If you want work with a connected storyline, such as emotional push and pull between characters, hidden identities or suspense, the short drama format suits that need: the story unfolds episode by episode, so you can look forward to what happens next the way you would with a TV series. When you enter HONG LUO, the site first asks you to confirm that you are 18 or older.
